Foth; Soils: An Introduction to Soil Science and Plant Growth oleh Donahue dan disesuaikan dengan perkembangan Ilmu Tanah masa kini yang disampaikan pada Jurnal-jurnal terkemuka. Penulis juga berusaha menyederhanakan pengertian dan istilah dari beberapa bagian dari isi bahan ajar yang terasa masih sulit dipahami mahasiswa sebagai pemula dalam bidang Ilmu ini. Penulis juga telah menyelipkan disana-sini rumus-rumus, tabel-tabel, rgambar dan grafik yang lebih relevan untuk mempermudah pemahaman dan pengingatan dari subjek yang dibicarakan. Dalam bab-bab tertentu penulis mengambil contoh kasus lokal (lingkup daerah dan nasional) untuk mempermudah pemahaman dan upaya penereapannya pada tingkat lokal dan nasional.
